Domain names

I’ve just purchased a plan and the first decision is my domain name. I know i want to stick with WordPress.com and not .org. However there are so many alternatives available – the default offered is .blog but how is this different to .me or .pro etc. As I will eventually want to move beyond blogging, I am not sure if I should take on the .blog name at this point. Could you point me to the direction of infomation on these tags to the domain names.

Personally I’m happy with a free .wordpress.com subdomain. My advice if you want to pay for a domain is not to use your name in the address. Then you’d be committing yourself to paying for it for the rest of your life and beyond. If you let it expire someone else would buy it and no doubt use it for nefarious purposes. Here are the dozens of available extensions (not that anyone takes notice of them as everyone uses mobile devices and follows links these days).

Since you plan to expand your site beyond blogging, I’d recommend choosing a flexible domain like.com,.net,.co, or.meinstead of.blog, which is mostly associated with blogs.
You can start with the free WordPress.com subdomain to test your content, and later upgrade to a custom domain that fits your long-term goals.
Don’t forget to enable domain privacy to protect your personal info.
