  I have purchased my own domain name from crazydomains and have tried to transfer it across to wordpress but it hasn’t worked.
  I am not at all computer literate and don’t know what to do next.

  You can’t transfer a domain name to WordPress.COM, they are not equipped to accept incoming transfers. You want to map the domain name:

  http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
