Domain Names

    Greetings!

My domain name (queenlyandconfident.com) will expire this fall. Upon expiration I would like to have my domain directed to my current website. At the time of expiration will the domain be released so I am free to use it elsewhere even if I have to purchase the name?

    Zakiya!

    Hi there,

You are welcome to point the domain towards your current website now, if you so desire. You will need to talk to your current webhosts so that they can configure your website properly, but once they do, they will give you what are called nameservers. Once you have those, you just need to log in here with us and change your nameserver settings to point to them. You can do this at any time, and your domain will point to your other site!

Here’s an article on how to point your domain’s nameservers:

And to answer your original question, yes once your domain expires it will be released so that you can purchase it elsewhere, however that process can take up to 80 days to complete. Instead, you may want to consider transferring your domain to another registrar. Transfers are usually pretty cheap to purchase and they renew your domain for a year in the process.
