Domain names?

  I am a little stuck :(

  After enquiring on here the other day I am going to register a domain name for my blog through wordpress. I do understand that it has to be .com or .org. But, currently my blog is titled “island smallholder” with a url of “goatsandgardens.wp”. I originally had g&g but then discovered someone else had a website with the same name so changed the title of the blog but couldn’t change the domain.

  So if I buy a domain, should it be “island smallholder” or should it be something else that island smallholder could be prefixed to if I ever learn enough to host my own? Or, with that being so far away in the unforseeable future that I shouldn’t worry about that and just have island smallholder dot whatever?

  Just re-read that and am aware that it is a little garbled – I guess what I am trying to ask is “how” a domain is made up. Are there set components that a domain name must have?
