Good afternoon,
You will need to “map” your existing domain name to your WordPress.com website; if you follow the steps outlined below, people will be able to access your wordpress account through BOTH your financialplanningforsuperheroesdotcom.wordpress.com URL and your custom one.
Here is how to do this:
1. Add domain mappingGo to the Domains page, select your site, and choose the Add Domain option.
2. Click the Map It button next to “Already own a domain?”
3. Enter the domain you’d like to map and click the blue Add button
4. Complete the checkout process for the mapping
5. Ask your domain provider to update your DNS settings
This step must be completed with the company you purchased your domain from. You can contact the support department at your domain registrar for help if necessary. If you are not sure what to say, here is a sample email you can send:
6. Wait for the magic
Depending on the order that you add everything, you may want to head back over to Domains and make sure the domain you just mapped is set as your primary domain.
Once it’s set as the primary, if the domain doesn’t load correctly or you see an error, don’t worry. It can take a few hours for your domain name servers (DNS) to update fully. You will also likely need to clear your browser’s cache.
If you know how to update the DNS yourself (advanced), click here for instructions.
I hope that helps!
