Domain names. How to get myname.wordpress.com?
-
All in the title. Finding it impenetrable.
I currently have mynamedotnet.wordpress.com, but when I go the options (18 euros for me), all I’m offered is mynamedotnet.com or mynamedot.net.
How can I get the more generic myname.wordpress.com domain?
Thanks in advance.

If someone has already registered peterlcrosbie.wordpress.com then you would not be able to register it. There can only be one owner of any one specific domain.
It looks like both peterlcrosbie.wordpress.com and petercrosbie.wordpress.com are already registered by someone else. You can find available domains here: http://wordpress.com/start/domains/
An available option for you is ‘plcrosbie.wordpress.com’

Thanks.
Will look into it. But I guess I’m stuck with what I have unless I update my plan to Premium – I’m still on the free one.
BTW, the link you’ve provided above, just takes me to the generic start page.

http://wordpress.com/start/domains/ scroll to the bottom, and click ‘skip for now’ and you will find yourself at the domain registration screen.
Let me know if you need more help with getting started.

peterlcrosbie –
There is a bug with registering the site address that matches your username. Here’s the link describing the bug:
https://github.com/Automattic/wp-calypso/issues/288You should be able to register peterlcrosbie.wordpress.com form this link:

Thanks, great.
But I’m already registered, with the site address that I have. Is there a way of replacing it or somehow (easily!) moving the existing blog across?
A less than ideal situation, especially for a beginner, to be honest.

Yes, you can change your blog address. Here’s how: https://en.support.wordpress.com/changing-blog-address/
