domain not taken but it says it is

  helpmomretire.wordpress.com isn’t taken when you search it online, but when i try to change my domain to it, it says it is taken

  Jetpack: No
  Correct account: Yes

  Deleted wordpress.com subdomains are never recycled. Once deleted or renamed, the subdomain gets locked forever.

  Indeed. A possible solution is to go for a Starter Plan and choose a custom domain e.g. momretire.help

  Forgive my skepticism, but I find it hard to believe I could never secure the helpmomretire.wordpress.com domain. Do you mind if I ask your credentials? Do you work for wordpress? Is there a way to contact WordPress directly? Is there a way to contact the former owner of the domain? Thanks for your replies! :)

  @kmarler – When you create a WordPress.com account, we automatically reserve the free *.wordpress.com URL using your username. This means that even if you delete the site or your account, nobody else can reserve kmarler.wordpress.com even if you’ve never created or used that URL.

  Furthermore, we adhere to a policy of not recycling or reassigning website addresses that have been used previously, regardless of whether the site is currently active. We prioritize respecting the ownership of site content by its owners and will not move or delete a site without their explicit consent, regardless of the length of time since their last update.

  Regarding the specific URL in question, it was reserved for the account with the same username, making it unavailable for use by others.

  There is an infinite supply of unused site addresses, so our policy should not limit your address selection. If your desired .wordpress.com address is not available, you may wish to register a custom domain to use with your website instead, such as example.com (without .wordpress in the name.)
