Domain options

I already own a .com domain at godaddy with a functioning website there. Now I have a blog in wordpress, so I want to club my website and blog at one place, instead of having it at two different places. Since blog posts can’t be changed, I was thinking of cancelling my website with godaddy and converting my blog at wordpress into a functioning website+blog. So is it cheaper to map the .com domain from godaddy or transfer the domain to wordpress? WordPress overall seems to be more expensive than godaddy. Also godaddy gave me free domain for 3 years with a website plan, but wordpress only gives one year free with a plan. At the same time I want to club my blog and website at one place. What should I do?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Functionally, mapping and transferring do the same thing. Someone entering your domain into their browser will be sent to your website.

Practically, transferring means that you have one bill to pay and one location to manage everything. Mapping means that you continue to pay for your domain registration at your current registrar and management will be done through their interface.

Either method works just fine, it’s really just up to what you prefer. You can always map the domain here and then transfer later if you are really unsure what you would like to do.

It is difficult to advise on price because I do not know what you are paying GoDaddy nor what the yearly domain registration fee would be if you left your domain with them and mapped it to WordPress.com. You’ll just need to look at what you are paying there and compare that to what you would pay at WordPress.com.
