Domain ownership
-
I have purchased the domain name through WordPress today. After doing this I cancelled this and received an email informing me I was due a refund.
I learnt a little more about domains and it seems I have cancelled this in haste as I now cannot transfer the domain name, starting with taking the tagline (WordPress) off the name before I transfer it. Please can you help me unravel this so that I can move the domain name.
If I do not own the domain name anymore, owing to the fact that I have cancelled the purchase, when will the domain be released? I would like to purchase it through another provider and according to a search on ownership, I still own it through WordPress. Please can you help make sense of this for me.
Many thanks

Hi there,
Are you speaking of barelymums.com?
If you want to use that domain some where else, and you’re willing to wait a few days, the domain should become available again towards the end of next week. Then you can register it directly at the provider where you want to use it at that point.
Or if you prefer we can restore it right away and help you point it elsewhere – you won’t be able to transfer it completely until you’ve owned it for at least 60 days. Let me know if you prefer this option, and I can send you a link to pay for the domain again.
Your free barelymums.wordpress.com address is something completely different from the custom domain you had added to that site. The free address is where your WordPress.com site is located on our servers, and that address cannot be transferred or pointed to another provider.

hey Alexandra,
The WordPress.com staff can help you recover your domain, then you can transfer it to another registrar.
I’m adding a modlook tag for staff assistance.Have a great day!

Thanks for your responses. I appreciate your time for sure.
It sounds like the best and shortest way for me to get through this is to wait until a while until the domain becomes available again. That way I can take ownership of it and move it where I need it to be, right?
I can wait… it’s not a problem.

Thanks for letting us know.
If you change your mind, we will still be able to restore the domain up until Wednesday. After that it will be deleted at the registry and go back into the pool of available domains within a day or two.

There is no need to modlook a thread to which a staff member has already replied. Once we reply to a thread, all future replies to that thread automatically comes into our queue.
