  Hi there,

  I recently bought a domain with WordPress, but requested a refund so I can use that domain with another website.

  I got my money back. However, when I try to register my domain with the other site, it tells me it is parked with Automattic.

  What’s going on?

  When we need Staff help with issues Volunteers cannot resolve like this one we type modlook into the sidebar tags on our forum threads. I did that for you.   Hey there,

  If you’re wanting to use your domain at a different host, you should never cancel it at your current host – once you decide to cancel your domain, there is no guarantee that you will be able to reacquire it in the future. Someone else could gain access to it. Also, it usually takes a few weeks for your domain registration to clear and become available once you cancel it. There isn’t an exact time, however, so you’ll be checking consistently to see when it becomes available.

  If you want to keep using your domain but you don’t want to use WordPress.com anymore, you don’t have to cancel it. Instead, you can move the domain to another site

  If you recently registered the domain, you have to wait 60 days before you are able to transfer your domain to a different host, but in the meantime, you can use the domain with your site by pointing the nameservers over to your new host:

  I’ll be happy to contact the registrar to see if we can restore the domain back to your account, but I cannot guarantee that we will be able to get the domain back.

  There is no phone support here and Staff will remove your number so you do not get crank calls.

  Email addresses are redacted but Staff can read them; we cannot.

  I went ahead and restored your domain to your account. I also noticed that the domain was never verified, so I resent the verification email to you as well.

  I also sent the manual payment for the domain subscriptions.
