Domain parked

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hey WordPress fellas

I upgraded to personal, changed my domain name from Tanzaniko.wordpress.com to ‘Tanzaniko.com, did not find the features that i had expected, got it refunded, and now my initial domain is being referred to tanzaniko.com that has been parked.

    What can i do?

Thanks for the help; i’ll wait in patience (or try at least)

    Hi Nikolaj,

tanzaniko.com was included in your Personal plan — so cancelling the plan also cancelled the domain.

I can try to restore the domain for you but I will need to send a payment request for the plan as you have already been refunded.

Just reply to confirm and I can sort that out for you.

    Thanks!

    Hey Gemmacevans

I’d love for you to fix it but i am not completely sure that i have understood what you need of me? Simply send me a payment request, does that imply that this “fix” costs money?

    Sincerely
    Nikolaj

    Hi Nikolaj,

Simply send me a payment request, does that imply that this “fix” costs money?

Your domain is showing as ‘parked’ because it was cancelled with your plan. When a domain is cancelled there is a short window where we can try to get it back before it’s released into the pool of available domains.

The reason I mentioned a payment request is because in order to register a domain, you need a plan — but you have already cancelled and been refunded for the plan you were using.

The other option is you can wait for the domain to be released, but there is no guarantee you will get it back again. You can register the domain elsewhere if you wish but you will still need a plan in order to use it on your WordPress.com site — in this case you would connect the domain to the site with domain mapping.

Let me know if you have any questions, I’m happy to answer them :)

    Hey Gemma

Instead of a short “Yes” or “no” you start on a more elaborate answer. To be honest, i simply want “Tanzaniko.wordpress.com” domain back, but i am not willing to pay for it, simply return to how it was before i mistakenly upgraded to personal.

SO if it does not involve a payment, i’d love to make the payment request, however, you need to explain me what you precisely need here.

    Sincerely
    Nikolaj

    Hi Nikolaj,

To be honest, i simply want “Tanzaniko.wordpress.com” domain back

Every site comes with a free WordPress.com address (tanzaniko.wordpress.com) — you will always have this address and there is no cost for it. You can still access your site using this link:

    https://tanzaniko.wordpress.com/

tanzaniko.com is a custom domain which is why you would need to pay to get it back. This is the domain I thought you were referring to.

You’re more than welcome to continue using tanzaniko.wordpress.com if you wish. A custom domain is entirely optional.

    Hey Gemma

However, when i type in “https://tanzaniko.wordpress.com/” it is being directed to Tanzaniko.com.

Nonetheless; i would like to have “Tanzaniko.com” freed so that i can buy it through a hosting service. Could this be done? Then i will install the wordpress engine, and set up my blog ASAP.

    Sincerely
    Nikolaj
& Sorry for the inconvenience Gemma, hope we can get it solved

    Hi Nikolaj,

    It’s no inconvenience :)

However, when i type in “https://tanzaniko.wordpress.com/” it is being directed to Tanzaniko.com.

It sounds like your browser may have cached the connection between tanzaniko.wordpress.com and the domain. Please clear your browser cache and then try visiting tanzaniko.wordpress.com again. There are instructions for different browsers here:

Nonetheless; i would like to have “Tanzaniko.com” freed so that i can buy it through a hosting service.

If you want to transfer the domain away, there are two options:

    1. Wait for the domain to be released

You can wait for your cancelled domain to become available and then register it through your hosting company. Newly registered domains should be released about a week after cancellation — although this timescale can vary slightly.

    2. Restore the domain through WordPress.com

I can send a payment request for the domain ($18) and try to recover it back to your WordPress.com account. Once the domain has been recovered, you can transfer it to your hosting company after 60 days. This is the safer option out of the two.

Let me know what you would like to do.
