Domain parked

  I was hosting my domain with wordpress, but cancelled it today. Now the domain is ‘parked with Automatic.’ I am wondering what this means and in how long I will be able to repurchase my domain with another site.

  Hi there,

  As you cancelled your domain within the first 5 days, it should be released by the middle of this week.

  However, please note that you should really only ever cancel a domain if you no longer want to use it at all. By cancelling a domain you give up ownership of it, and domain providers are under no obligation to release it until it expires, besides the fact that someone else could buy the domain once its released.

  In future, if you already own a domain and want to use it somewhere else, find out about options for transferring it instead.

  Ok thank you! I didn’t know what I was doing. So I will be able to use it on the new site once it’s released? Can you guys restore it by any chance? Do WordPress have a customer service number I can call to speak to someone?

  I can also restore the domain for you if you prefer. Then you can point it to another hosting provider for now, and transfer it out once you’ve owned it for 60 days.

  Please confirm if I should do that.

  Which one is better? I want to transfer it out now instead of waiting 60 days.

  It is impossible to transfer it immediately if I restore. Any new domain cannot be transferred for the first 60 days, no matter where you buy it. That’s a regulation from ICANN, the organisation that regulates all domain names on the web.

  So you can wait another couple of days, and hope no one else registers the domain once it’s released, before you are able to. Or I can restore the domain, which guarantees you keep it, but you’ll only be able to map it to a different provider for the next 60 days before you can transfer it.

  Ok I’ll wait and just hope for the best! What’s the longest time it will take to be released?
