Domain Parked through automattic

Hi,

I recently started a blog with wordpress.com when i meant to start it with wordpress.org. Apparently I bought the plan with the domain name (which is my username) but once i realized that it was wordpress.com, i immediately cancelled my plan and domain. This all happened within an hour.

However, now my domain name is parked and all i want to do is buy it through godaddy… I’m not sure how long it will be parked. Can anyone give me some insight?

Good Morning –

I’ll be happy to help sort this out. Please confirm which domain you need a hand with? Is it liveideally.com?

If so, this domain should be available for registration again in about 5 days from the cancellation.

You could use it immediately if needed. We’d just need to restore it to your account, and then edit the DNS records to show your GoDaddy site. Once the domain is 60 days old you could officially transfer it.

It is liveideally.com… So in 5 days it won’t be parked anymore? Or up to 5 days?

My web developer wants to use wordpress.org because of less limitations with developing the site. So I don’t think i should restore it to my wordpress.com account.

I just want the domain available again so i can repurchase it through wordpress host on godaddy.

Great question. I should have been more clear. It’s typically 5 days from the cancellation date. It can take longer though sometimes. Check back in if it’s not available after 5 days.

Hi Liz,

I cancelled my domain on April 19th and now it’s the 24th. I checked the site and it doesn’t say “Parked through Automattic” anymore. Just says “This site can’t be reached”.

However, when I try to buy the domain through godaddy, it says that the domain is taken.

Hello –

I’ve checked on other domain registrars like Name Cheap and I am able to register liveideally.com as a new domain. On GoDaddy however I am also given the “domain is taken” message. Have you been in touch with GoDaddy about the domain?

I’ve confirmed that the domain has been released.

I contacted godaddy and they are saying the registrar still owns it and so it won’t come up for them yet.
