Domain Payment

My credit card was hit with fraud, and the wordpress payment did not go through. I am trying to pay with the new card but the site won’t let me. I am at work and this is extremely frustrating.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

On 4 February you filed a chargeback against us, meaning you accused us of making a fraudulent charge to your card. If you do that, all upgrades on your account are removed and your site is locked until you pay a chargeback fee. You won’t be able to make any payments or do anything on your site until you do that. You can see our full policy on chargebacks here:

    Chargebacks & Disputes

If the dispute against us was in error you can try to cancel it with your bank or credit card company, and if that succeeds I’ll be able to restore your upgrades and unlock your site. However, if your bank/credit card company has already closed the dispute on their end, you’ll need to pay the fee before you’ll be able to do anything else.

My bank told me it was a fraudulent charge and they stopped payment and issued a new card. I did not do anything. I tried to make payment with my new card and it wouldn’t let me. I will pay the fee, but it won’t let me do that either. I tried yesterday.

  • Then your bank is probably blocking payments to us with the new card as well. You’ll need to contact them and tell them we are a legitimate business from whom you’re trying to buy a service, and they should allow the transaction.

Also please do try and cancel the existing chargeback if that’s the case. Probably someone else filed a dispute against us with the same bank and they decided to dispute all transactions with us from other customers. If you’re still able to cancel this dispute we might be able to waive the chargeback fee and restore your domain without you needing to make a second payment.

OK. I will call them today. Thank you.

I spoke with the fraud department at Capital One. They are going to take the block off the payment, but they could not give me a time frame. It was pretty frustrating. If I may make a suggestion – when Capital One suspected this charge was fraud, they froze my account. If the charge had said “WordPress”, I would have known it was valid. Instead, it was a series of letters and numbers. Capital One told me it was fraud and I took their word for it. Now my blog is frozen, and my credit card is finally back up and running. All of this could have been avoided if WordPress used their name instead of a collection of letters and numbers. Now I don’t know when Capital One will finish the investigation and make the payment to you.

I am having the exact same problem with Capital One! I cannot figure out how to send money to wordpress to at least get my blog back up and running while everything is sorted out. They are also aware it was a false chargeback that I did not initiate but somehow I am not frozen out of wordpress. Ugh!

Liz, I feel your pain. I tried to pay WordPress with a different credit card but the payment site would not take payment. I’d love to speak to a real human being…

Kokkieh is a real, live human being who is on Staff and who will get back to this thread when he logs in again.

I know that. I just can’t get a human to take payment :)

  • All of this could have been avoided if WordPress used their name instead of a collection of letters and numbers.

When a charge is made we provide your bank with a reference containing the domain, wpchrg.com, which is the address for our billing department. Should you visit that site you’ll find steps how to confirm if a charge you received is from us, and a contact form to contact our billing department directly. If your bank did not display that information on your statement, that’s not in our control.

I tried to pay WordPress with a different credit card but the payment site would not take payment.

I don’t see any failed payments on either of your accounts, which means your payment is again being blocked before the information even reaches our payment processor. We’re not blocking your payments, as your payments are never even reaching is. This means your bank is likely still blocking it from going through on the new card as well.

I’ll ask someone from our billing department to take a look at this, but it’s unlikely we’ll be able to do anything.

  • Hi there,

Our team has been working to resolve this issue, and you should be able to make payments again now. Please let me know if you still have any trouble with this.

  • Unknown's avatar

Thank you! I will try again today.

I just tried again with a different card and it keeps saying the domain already exists and cannot be duplicated. I am so frustrated with this. Is there a customer service line I can call and pay?

  • The domain wasn’t cancelled when we received the chargeback, only disabled, so it’s still registered. Only pay the chargeback fee, please, and then let me know so I can help you restore the domain. I’ve sent you a separate payment link for the domain via email.

I have paid the domain fee. Thank you. I will try again to pay the chargeback. That’s where it keeps failing.

  • Hmm. It might be failing because you still have other items in your cart. I’ve cleared those out, so you should now be able to proceed via this page:

    https://wordpress.com/checkout/personaledensdotcom.wordpress.com

I’ve already restored the domain, so it should start working immediately once the payment goes through. If it still won’t go through, please let me know.
