domain pointing

  • Unknown's avatar

My domain is not pointing to the correct IP address. I have a hosting account with GoDaddy and have changed the A Name in the DNS settings to the correct IP address nearly 3 weeks ago. I have triple checked the IP address and it is correct. I just recently deleted the DNS A Name and re-entered it again hoping it would go through this time.

Why won’t the domain point to the correct IP? (I have tracerouted it several times over the past weeks and it refuses to point to the right IP)

    Hi there!

I just changed your name servers back to WordPress.com. In order for the DNS records inputted into the form here at WordPress.com to take effect, your name servers must be pointed at us.

These changes can take up to 72 hours to take effect, so let me know if they’re still not working in a day or two. :)

Let me know if you have any other issues!

So, does that mean that I can change the nameservers (back to the GoDaddy nameservers) after the A name changes take effect?

My issue is that the A Name DNS setting is not changing. It is incorrect but whenever I correct it, it does not change.

Thank you for your help with this, it’s been very confusing. :)

No. If you change the name servers to anything other than WordPress.com, then the A records listed in our system will stop working. The only way the A record listed in our system will work is if the name servers are pointed at WordPress.com. If you point the name servers to GoDaddy, you’ll need to change your DNS records through GoDaddy instead. Does that make sense?

Currently the A record in our system is pointing to 50.62.160.109. Is this correct?

Are you trying to setup email hosting while having your domain pointed at GoDaddy? You’ll need to change the name servers back to GoDaddy and add the email records through GoDaddy if that’s the case.

Let me know if I can clarify anything!

    That IP is correct.

Will this change in nameservers affect my email or will my MX records take care of everything? I guess what I’m asking is, will I need to change any of my DNS settings in order to keep my email functioning? (My email is hosted through zoho)

Thank you for helping with this! I am definitely NOT an expert! lol

Changing your name servers to WordPress.com will make these records take effect:

However, if your site is hosted at GoDaddy, changing the name servers will cause your domain to no longer direct to your website. Essentially your site will go down. It doesn’t look like this has happened yet. So I can change your name servers back go GoDaddy and your site will not be affected. But you will need to contact GoDaddy about setting up your MX records.

    Does that make sense?

    It does make sense! :)

    Everything is functioning correctly now.
I just wanted to say thanks! You were VERY helpful and VERY fast in responding to my questions.

Feel free to send me a survey or show this to your boss so that they know you did a wonderful job! :)
