Domain privacy cost

Wordpress.com says it does not charge for protecting the privacy of a domain name, but the registrar of record may do so. I haven’t picked a domain name yet but I want to know about what privacy will cost.

  • Hi there,

To clarify we include privacy for free (by default) for any domain you register at WordPress.com. The only time this is not possible is if the top level domain (TLD) itself does not have privacy as an option. At this time there is no privacy option for the following TLDs:

Privacy is possible on most domains but please note that there are certain cases where Privacy Protection is not available at all (or only available if you are registering as an individual and not as an organization or “company”) due to the registry’s policies.

    • .ca domains – Privacy Protection is not available for non-individual or organization
    • .fr domains – Privacy Protection is not available for organization registrants.
    • .id, .in, .jp, .mx, and .com.mx, domains, Privacy Protection is not available.

Please refer to the updated info here as this may change over time: https://wordpress.com/support/domains/domain-registrations-and-privacy/#privacy-protection

To clarify, if privacy is available it is included for free on all domains we offer here. If it is not possible, we do not offer a standalone option to purchase it. Hope this clarification helps!
