Hey there @emchorush,
You’re correct that you can hide the .wordpress.com part by registering a new domain if you have purchased a WordPress.com plan.
For more info on WordPress.com plans check out the pricing page.
I hope this has been helpful, and let me know if you have more questions.
Best,

Sorry, I don’t need help with firstmontrosecommons.org
I need help with pinemontautosalvage.wordpress.com -
Hi again,
No problem, I assumed that’s what you meant. I searched pinemontautosalvage.com and it looks like it’s available. So the answer is yes, it’s possible to add that domain by upgrading to a WordPress.com plan. Each plan comes with one free domain credit, which you can put towards pinemontautosalvage.com.
For more info about domains check out the Domain support page. For more info about the different plans check out the pricing page.
Good luck and let me know if you have more questions,
Travis -
Thanks, mabinn.
there is a pinemontauto.com already established with a non wordpress domain.could that be pointed to:
pinemontautosalvage.com (wordpress plan)
or even to pinemontautosalvage.wordpress.comwould there be a charge for that or could it be a “dummy” web site pointing to the one established at wordpress?
thank you!
-
And you also own the domain for pinemontauto.com, correct?
So assuming you own this domain, and also assuming you’ve already upgraded your plan and put your one free domain credit towards mapping pinemontautosalvage.com, you’ll have to pay for any additional mapping upgrades separately. Adding additional domains you already own costs $13.00 per domain, per year.
To actually map a domain, first go to the Domains page, select your site, and choose the Add Domain option. Then click the Upgrade button next to “Already own a domain?” and enter the domain you’d like to map.
Next, you’ll need to ask your domain provider to update your DNS settings, a step which must be completed with the company you purchased your domain from.
Clearer instructions can be found on the Use a Domain You Already Own support page.
Let me know if you have any other questions and I’ll happily answer them!
Good luck,
Travis -
Thank you, Travis.
The person who owns Pinemont Auto Salvage does own pinemontauto.com . It is currently hosted by another domain provider. They will check to make sure that their other provider will agree to update the DNS settings to point to wordpress.
If the owner of the Pinemont Auto Salvage company chooses your free service – pinemontautosalvage.wordpress.com
it seems, from what you say that they would not be able to have pinemontauto.com point to a wordpress.com domain.what options do they have?
-Could pinemontauto.com have their DNS settings pointed to WordPress as $36.00 annual account and have pinemontautosalvage.wordpress.com added as a free sub account? If they prefer your free service could
pinemontauto.com be changed to pinemontauto,wordpress.com?
and be a sub account to pinemontautosalvage.wordpress.com?If so, does a wordpress.com domain protect from someone else using pinemontauto.com or pinemontautosalvage.com? Or would the .com versions be open?
And if they choose to have only one .com account for $36.00 per year, leaving the other domain as a wordpress.com domain, I take it that would not protect the wordpress.com account.
Sorry, I need to be able to explain this and first I need to understand it better.
Thanks!

Hey @emchorush,
Those are all good questions. Mapping domains can be very confusing and costly so I totally understand wanting to get it right.
It sounds like you’re pursuing a couple different options here, but your main goal is to own all three domains and have them point to pinemontautosalvage.com
So here are a couple of options for doing that:
Option A:
Begin by upgrading your plan for pinemontautosalvage.wordpress.com and use the domain credit to map to your desired domain (the “top-level domain”), pinemontautosalvage.com. For instructions on how to do all this check out the section titled “Instructions For Registering a New Domain” on the Register a New Domain support page.Next, you’ll go through a similar process to map the domain for
pinemontautosalvage.com. This will incur another fee of $18 per year. Instructions for this process can be found in the Use a Domain You Already Own support page. The final part of this process will require the owner of pinemontautosalvage.com to configure that site’s DNS settings to point towards your new top-level domain, pinemontautosalvage.com.Option B:
Purchase your desired domain, pinemontautosalvage.com, from another host that is not WordPress.com. Then map your domains for pinemontautosalvage.wordpress.com and pinemontauto.com so that they point to it. I believe this will cost about the same as you’d still need to pay for mapping both domains.Option C:
Just skip the purchase of pinemontautosalvage.com and go through the steps to have pinemontauto.com point to your WordPress.com website. This would remove part of the cost.I personally think option A makes the most sense unless you don’t mind having pinemontautosalvage.wordpress.com as your primary domain. In that case, go with option C.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
All the best,
Travis -
Hi Travis,
I am the web site administrator for firstmontrosecommons.org
and built that web site.
We have a “free” plan but pay $5.00 per year for the domain name and $13.00 per year for
-WordPress.com Subdomain
-Jetpack Essential Features
-Community Support
-Hundreds of Free Themes
-Basic Design Customization
-3GB Storage Space
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/domain-purchase-58?replies=4#post-2980415I would like the same thing for pinemontautosalvage.com
pinemont does not need the upgrade to 6GB and all the other stuff.
It’s pretty much one front page static web site.
we can do away with the testimonials.please advise.
thanks,

It’s no longer possible to purchase standalone services like it sounds like you did for firstmontrosecommons.org.
If you would like to use a custom domain for pinemontautosalvage.wordpress.com you would need to upgrade to the Personal, Premium or Business plan for that site.
Any of those plans will allow you to use a custom domain with the site. The Personal plan would be the cheapest option.
I’d suggest upgrading first so that you receive the domain credit. You can then register the pinemontautosalvage.com domain using that credit.
You can learn more about WordPress.com custom domain options here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/

Thank you ellybiddle for that information.
I have 3 more questions about this please.
1.The person who owns the company, Pinemont Auto Salvage, owns the web site pinemontauto.com. It is currently hosted by another domain provider.
If Pinemont chooses your free service, namely, pinemontautosalvage.wordpress.com and the DNS settings for pinemontauto.com are changed to a wordpress account,
would they be able to change pinemontauto.com to a free wordpress.com domain as well?If so, does a wordpress.com domain keep someone else from establishing a pinemontauto.com or pinemontautosalvage.com web site?
2. Alternatively, can they choose to have only one .com account for $36.00 per year, and keep the other domain as a wordpress.com domain that points to the paid one?
Sorry, I need to be able to explain this and first I need to understand it better.
3. Finally, the firstmontrosecommons.org web address should not be associated with the pinemontautosalvage web address.
I am one of 3 administrators authorized on firstmontrosecommons. The other 2 administrators are not associated with pinemont.
Can I change my email address that’s associated with the pinemont web site to separate it from firstmontrose?
It seems that the 2 different web sites are part of the same “account”
based on the drop down menu I have in WP-ADMIN.Thanks very much!

They would need to upgrade to the Personal, Premium or Business plan to use the custom domain. Once they’ve done that, they can set up domain mapping to use pinemontauto.com with their WordPress.com site.
If so, does a wordpress.com domain keep someone else from establishing a pinemontauto.com or pinemontautosalvage.com web site?
If they have registered the pinemontauto.com or pinemontautosalvage.com domain name, no one else will be able to use that domain name. This is the case no matter if the domain is registered through WordPress.com or elsewhere.
Keep in mind that domains need to be renewed once a year. If the domain registration expires someone else will be able to use the domain.
Alternatively, can they choose to have only one .com account for $36.00 per year, and keep the other domain as a wordpress.com domain that points to the paid one?
They would need to purchase a site redirect to redirect a WordPress.com site.
Finally, the firstmontrosecommons.org web address should not be associated with the pinemontautosalvage web address.

Hi there,
The site, http://firstmontrosecommons.org/, has nothing at all to do with your site at pinemontautosalvage.wordpress.com
You see both sites listed in your account as you are a user on both sites, but they are completely separate sites. And there is no way for someone who visits firstmontrosecommons.org to know that your account also owns pinemontautosalvage.wordpress.com, unless you add that information on the site or in your public profile.
If you’d prefer to have it in two completely separate accounts, you’ll first need to log out of this account and create a new username account. Then log back in and transfer the pinemontautosalvage.wordpress.com site to the new account. I recommend you do this before you buy a plan and domain, as site transfers become a bit more complicated the moment there are domains connected to the site.

Thank you for your help.
I’d like to correct my first question.
What I meant to ask was:
Can Pinemont choose to establish and publish only:
pinemontautosalvage.wordpress.com
and pinemontauto.wordpress.comAnd if so, can someone else, away from WordPress, use those
domain names.
Thanks! -
Can Pinemont choose to establish and publish only:
pinemontautosalvage.wordpress.com
and pinemontauto.wordpress.comYes, if those site names are available you can use them in WordPress.com.
And if so, can someone else, away from WordPress, use those
domain names.Once those site names are in use in WordPress.com no one else will be able to use them.
-
You can transfer https://pinemontautosalvage.wordpress.com/ to the Pinemont username. Then this account, emchorush, will no longer have access to the site and only @pinemont will be able to manage that site, unless that account adds you back as a user.
Transferring a Site to Another WordPress.com Account
pinemontauto.wordpress.com doesn’t exist, so the @pinemont account can create that address as well.
Free WordPress.com addresses can only be used on WordPress.com, regardless of whether they already exist or not. Custom domains, like pinemontautosalvage.com, can be used by anyone, anywhere, but once the domain is registered it can only be used by the person who owns it for as long as they keep on renewing it.

Thank you, kokkieh!
If I were to establish a new user name, would I need to use a different email address for the second user name or can I use my current email address?
If I set up a new user name, how would I transfer the pinemontautosalvage.wordpress.com to the new user name, please?
Sorry, this is challenging for me, lol.
If Pinemont wishes to use WordPress’ free service and use wordpress.com for each of the domain names, can
pinemontauto.com (currently registered with a third party) have its DNS “transferred” to wordpress and then that domain name be changed to pinemontauto.wordpress.com in order to have the free service? Are free wordpress.com domain names protected or can someone else set up that domain as a .com or .org?
Can a small business use a .org domain name or is that only for non profits?
From what I understand, is it correct that a .com or .org domain (without the wordpress.com format) is no longer available as a free site even if it’s a minimal web site with one static single page that does not need the upgrade to 6 GB, etc?
Thanks very much!

kokkieh,
re:
The site, http://firstmontrosecommons.org/, has nothing at all to do with your site at pinemontautosalvage.wordpress.com
good – then I will not create a new user name.
—————————————————
If the owner of Pinemont would like to have the third party move the DNS for pinemontauto.com to wordpress and change it to pinemontauto.wordpress.com, how is that accomplished, please?
thank you.
