Domain purchase not valid

  I purchased domain phdmommyconfidential.com from WordPress on 6-28-13. Whenever I type phdmommyconfidential.com into my web browser, I get “phdmommyconfidential.com not valid cr.” I went to my wordpress settings and they said that I need to update my DNS. I tried to do this, but was unsuccessful. I searched WHOIS to see who owned phdmommyconfidential.com and it is registered to someone who is not me. I don’t understand how it is possible for someone else to own this if I purchased it from wordpress. Here is the information that I found:

  What does any of this mean? How can I get my blog to show up under the web address phdmommyconfidential.com? What did I pay wordpress for if I do not own the web address? I am just so confused.

  Hi there – when you purchased phdmommyconfidential.com, you actually only purchased mapping. You didn’t actually register the domain, since it wasn’t available. There was a question as you went through the process about whether you already own this domain, but it’s not super clear, and we’re working on making this distinction more obvious when you add a domain.

  I’ve canceled that mapping and refunded your $13.00. Your primary domain is now:
