  Is there a way of buying domains out right rather than yearly costs?

  Hi there,

  Domain Registrations are offered as part of our WordPress.com plans. You will need to have an active plan on your site in order to register a domain.

  Each plan comes with a free domain name credit for one year of registration. When your plan and domain are up for renewal, they will renew independently of each other. Review the Manage Purchases section of your account for renewal dates and cost.

  Hi there,

  You do not need to buy a paid plan in order to register a domain.

  If you just want a domain and intend to host it somewhere else, you can register it via https://wordpress.com/domains/

  Register a Domain Without Creating a Site

  You can also buy just a domain for an existing or new WordPress.com site without upgrading to a paid plan, but then the domain will merely redirect visitors to your WordPress.com site. If you want the domain to be visible in the browser address bar when someone views your site, that will require a paid plan.
