Domain question

    Hi –

I purchased a domain (gregory-james.co.uk) today. This was originally mapped to meing32514321.wordpress.com.

I previously launched the meing32514321.wordpress.com site, but then realized how horrible that URL looks even though I typed in the domain I purchased. So I went and changed meing32514321.wordpress.com to gjameskelly.wordpress.com.

I assumed that the purchased domain would automatically map to the new gjameskelly.wordpress.com, but it did not. Can you please explain how I can rectify this? If we’re not able to rectify this, then I’d like the domain purchase to be cancelled please.

    Thanks!

    Gregory

    Hi there!

While you can purchase a domain without a plan, to have your domain be your primary domain, you need a paid plan. Otherwise, your domain will redirect to your free *.wordpress.com URL. This was true before you changed your site URL to gjameskelly.wordpress.com.

If you decide to upgrade to one of our paid plans and choose the annual option, we can refund you the cost of the domain because every annual plan comes with a first-year free domain credit. So even the Personal plan would be suitable for your needs.

The other benefits of Personal include an ad-free experience for you and your readers and priority email support.

Otherwise, since you’re within the 96-hour period for domain refunds, you can request that from your account purchases page.

I hope that clarifies things! Let us know if you have any questions. :)
