  I’m thinking of buying a domain from godaddy since its cheaper than wordpress. I was wondering how does this work.

  It cost $18 to get a domain directly from wordpress store, if I skip this option and get a domain from godaddy.com.
  all I have to do is go to settings add new domain and it will work or do I have to pay extra fee to wordpress to have it to work?

  There’s something about “mapping” i dont know what that is… can someone please explain to me how this adding a new domain thing works!?

  my current domain have wordpress.com in it (the free one). I just want to change it to look better, also looking for the cheapest way to do it.

  Just the registration here is $ 5.– / year for a .com domain (the $ 18.– includes domain mapping – it can be a bit confusing the first time) – do read the link from @TT at least three times please –

  You’re going to need to pay the $13 domain mapping fee regardless of where you buy the domain. In that light, I don’t know what GoDaddy charges for just the domain, but at WordPress it’s $5.

  Thanks, it seems a little confusing. I don’t have any domains yet… I’m looking for the cheapest way possible to do this. I was wondering if I get a domain from a different place (godaddy) will I have to pay $13 to wordpress for adding it?

  Oh okay, then I will get it from wordpress. I saw a new that you can get a domain at godaddy for $.99
  Btw, how do I change my avatar? I tried using Gravatar but it’s not showing. I see my gravatar sometimes, but sometimes i dont see it..

  Of course you do. They are not going to map a domain free of charge. The fee is $13 per year per blog for domain mapping. Go back and read what’s at the link I posted please http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/

  Read the fine print on $ .99 registration – that might be only if you host with them – also look at the renewal cost – many hosts have a low cost get the sucker in the door price then stick it to you on the renewal

  It looks like the Godaddy regular price is from $ 11.– to $ 15.– year to register / renew a .COM domain name – –
