Domain Question
-
If I buy a domain through wordpress.com for my blog making it say, myblog.com. I’d also want to add a forum from prophpbb.com. So my question is, would it be possible to buy the domain through you guys, have my blog portion at myblog.com (not real domain name, obviously) and then have my forum be either myblog.com/forum or forum.myblog.com?
Thanks in advance.

Do you really intend to be in this forum?:

And note that staff sometimes drop by, but “us guys” in the forum are generally just fellow bloggers, not staff.

This is how I have gotten all my questions answered before so I figured I’d just do it again. Sorry if that upset some of you.

We are not upset with people who mistakenly post a question in the wrong forum you where you are unlikely to get an answer that applies you your very different software. If we try to answer and it doesn’t apply, we’ve wasted our time. And you wasted your time by getting a wrong answer or waiting for a reply.
It should be more clear to both .com and .org bloggers that there are 2 forums, and 2 (or more) formats. But we are all only volunteers here and have no control over how the 2 forums are presented to their respective users.

For example, you asked about having a forum for your blog back in August and were told that you could not do it on WordPress.com. I’m wondering if you realized that there are different versions of wordpress? No one asked you back then.

And what Tess is explaining is one of the reasons visitors here should always give the URL of their blog when asking questions.

I know about the two versions of WordPress. I want to use the .com one (the free one). But then I am planning on buying a domain through them for 15 credits. You see?
I was just wondering if it’s basically the same as a domain you’d buy through GoDaddy where I would be able to mark a forum as forum.domain.com or something.

Don’t buy your domain here if you want control over subdomains. Take a look at the domain management FAQ http://support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/domain-management/ – you will note that there are certain things that you cannot do with the domain purchased here and one of them is no subdomains.
You are better off purchasing your domain elsewhere and, in order to keep control of the domain elsewhere, pointing a subdomain here for your blog – blog.domain.com – in order to be able to create another subdomain for your forums. (If you point the top level domain here – ie domain.com – then you lose control of the domain.)
