  I set up a website and domain through Wix. I wanted to give WordPress a try though to see if I can build a site without some of the issues I’m having with wix. If I select a free domain on WordPress just to play with the site building, can I replace that domain with my current Wix domain later? Thanks!

  I don’t have a site with WordPress.com yet

  Hi,

  The short answer is, yes, you can do that. You do not need to use a custom domain right when you start out. You can keep the yourgroovysite.wordpress.com style default domain until you are ready.

  Just to clarify, your current Wix domain is a standard domain registered with a domain registrar? Something like, yourgroovysite.com?

  Hi. Thanks for the reply! My current domain is a standard, registered domain. It is robertsroadsiderescue.com . I have not publicly published the page yet until I am closer to launching the business.

  Understood. When you set up a test site here, feel free to use a free address like bobfromtx.wordpress.com to get started.

  Then you can start creating your first page:
  https://wordpress.com/page

  From there, you’d be welcome to import your content, customize the site, or try anything else you’d like to get a feel for things. We also have some tutorials here:
  https://wordpress.com/support/tutorials

  And when you’re ready, you can connect your domain to the site to make it live.
