Domain re-direct not working correctly

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

I’ve been trying to get my domain switched to blogger for a year now. I finally have http://www.laurenshoff.com working correctly, but I still get taken to WordPress when I go to laurenshoff.com.

How do I correct this? I feel like I’ve been fumbling with this forever!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

I see that you set your nameservers are still set to us as seen here:

    https://who.wildwestdomains.com/whoisstd.aspx?domain=laurenshoff.com&prog_id=wildwestdomains

Contact Blogger and see what nameservers you need to update them to so that it can point to your Blogger site. Once we update that your Blogger site will show up at your domain.

Let me know if you have any questions with this!

Oy. I think I give up! I can’t find anything about name servers in Blogger, and the only instructions I found don’t apply to the dashboard I’m seeing. All I keep reading about are CNAMEs.

Oh well! I’ll just put a link to redirect it.

If you need a CNAME, provide me the CNAME record you need, and I can add those records.

I don’t think I need a CNAME. I need the nameservers. Aren’t those two different things?

  • Unknown's avatar

You can map it multiple ways. You mentioned that Blogger needed a CNAME. We recommend that you map it via nameservers, but that’s not the only way. What does Blogger need? Then we can go from there.

  • Unknown's avatar

No, I didn’t say Blogger needed a CNAME. I don’t know what Blogger needs or why they would need anything. You’re telling me I need name servers but I haven’t been able to find those.

Normally we map via nameservers, which is why I asked for them. But if that’s not what Blogger needs, let me know and I’ll see if it’s possible.

I just want my naked domain to point to my www on Blogger. I thought I had done everything necessary but you’re saying I need to change my name servers. I don’t know what I’m supposed to change them to, and you can’t really contact Blogger.

This has been a year-long process so I’m frustrated that I’m constantly spinning in circles. Is a CNAME the same as a name server? Do I need to change both now?

Blogger is fine. My www address works perfectly.

But the naked domain I’m trying to bring over from WordPress is terrible.

I don’t really know what Blogger “needs.”

I understand what you are trying to do, and normally it’s a fairly simple process once I get the information that I need. I believe you want your domain: laurenshoff.com to show up on your Blogger site. If that is not what you want, let me know.

In order to do this, all we normally have to do is update the nameservers. But, I will need the nameservers of your new host, which you are telling me is Blogger. CNAME records and nameservers are not the same.

Note that nameservers are not the only way to change your host, which is why I am asking you to ask Blogger what they need to have an existing domain point to them. This is not something that I can do for you as I am not an employee of Blogger. I don’t know what they need – it could be nameservers, it could be IP addresses, I’m not sure. Once I know what they need, I can figure out if it would be possible on our end.
