domain re-purchase
-
I cancelled my domain Suddenboon.com. Can this be reissued and how much would it cost? II decided not to use wordpress and wanted to have it through another site. How long would I have to wait for it to become free for public purchase again if that is what I decide to do?
Thank You

Hi there:
Thanks for reaching out! I’m showing that you canceled the domain, but since you were outside the refund window for a domain purchase, you were not refunded the $18 registration fee.
Additionally, since you cancelled a domain more than 96 hours after renewal, the domain has entered what is called a “redemption period” where it can take anywhere from 12-90 days for the domain to be released for repurchase.
You can read more about the redemption process here:
https://wordpress.com/support/domains/domain-expiration/#redemption-period
Therefore, you have two options here:
1. Recover the domain. This would involve paying the $80 redemption fee to recover the domain. This price is not set by us but by the domain registrar so we have no way to get around that fee.
Once the domain is recovered we can help give you instructions on how to use this domain elsewhere. After 60 days, you’ll be able to transfer the domain to the domain registrar of your choice – this is another limitation by the domain registry, so it’s another thing we can’t override.
2. Wait for the domain to be released. As mentioned above, this will happen anywhere from 12-90 days and there’s no way to be notified when the domain is actually released. You would need to keep checking a domain registry search to see if it pops up as available for purchase.
If you want to make sure you keep the domain, I recommend the first option. You already paid the domain registration fee, so you just need to pay the redemption fee in this case.
I hope that clarifies things! Let us know which way you’d like to proceed!
