Domain Re-registration

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

My domain name appears to have expired and my website is no longer accessible. I usually receive an annual reminder email when the domain is about to expire but didn’t receive one this time around – and because I only log into WordPress once a year for the renewal I only found out when someone pointed out my website was no longer accessible. Can someone please let me know what the steps are to re-registering my domain?

    Thanks so much.

    Hi,

Follow this guide to learn how to renew an expired domain: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/domain-expiration/

    Hope this helps,

Thanks, I had a read and am assuming my domain name has been returned to the pool of available domain names, since there’s no option to renew it anywhere.

If that’s the case, is there any point in keeping my WordPress account since I can now wait and register the domain somewhere else?

  • stwnigel – Domains are time sensitive. Please use the modlook tag to put such threads in to the staff queue so we can evaluate the domain status.

  • laurajnorrisphoto – It looks like you are inquiring about laurajnorrisphoto.com. Is that right?

The domain is in a held status at the moment. If you want me to restore it I will contact our domain partner and ask them to do that. Please write back to let me know.

Yes that’s the one and yes, please – if you could, that would be great. Thanks so much.

  • I’ve sent you a link via email to pay for the domain’s renewal. Once we receive your payment we can email our domain provider to restore the domain.

Note that there is a chance your domain could enter redemption before we’re able to get it back. Should that happen there’s an additional $80 fee before our registrar will restore the domain. But looking at your domain I think we’ll still be able to get it back in time.

  • We received notice of your payment a few hours ago.

However, since I sent you the payment link on 5 July, your domain has gone into redemption as I’d warned you might happen. Because we did not receive your payment in time we now have to pay our domain provider an additional $80 to get the domain back.

I’m sending you a new payment request for that amount. Once we receive your payment we can contact our domain provider to restore the domain.

Also note that if you again wait too long to complete the payment, you might lose the domain completely. Domains only remain in redemption for a limited time, after which they’re completely deleted, which would allow anyone to buy it again.
