Domain Redirection to WordPress.com
-
I want to redirect a domain to a wordpress.com blog
there seems to be two ways of doing this
1. Domain mapping, described at http://support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/
2. “301 redirection” which is discussed
at the following 2, as well as many other, places.:

https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/odd-problem-with-301-redirect-to-not-from-wpcom?replies=2Tell me if I am wrong, but I think Domain Mapping means the redirection
occurs at the Domain Name Server, while 301 Redirection occurs at the server
which hosts my current web site. How does Domain Mapping differ from 301 Redirection?
Why would I want one over the other ?The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

301 is just a forward – i.e. to prariecycle.wordpress.com – you visitors will see prariecycle.wordpress.com in the URL
Domain mapping lets you have prariecycle.com – your visitors will see prariecycle.com – better branding and identification –
My suggestion – Domain Mapping – way less confusion for your visitors. And at I think $ 12– a year not a big cost. And if you ever move you can take your name with you and not confuse visitors.
