Domain refund

  • Unknown's avatar

This afternoon I cancelled my business plan and the associated domain name, because I became aware after four days that in spite of the price, the product would not provide me the freedom I expected. My intention is now to buy the domain and hosting elsewhere. However, I appear not to have been refunded for the domain name, and the domain name itself doesn’t now show as available on other sites.

Could you confirm how long it should take for WordPress to release the domain registration and complete my refund?

    Many thanks.

I’ve tagged this for the attention of a WordPress.com staff member.

  • Once canceled, registrars will not release the domain to be registered again for some amount of time. This is typically done as an anti-fraud measure. It can also have the result of someone swiping your newly released domain before you have a chance to register it again.

If you like, I can try and reverse the cancellation, it typically takes 12-48 hours.

If successful you will be able to use the domain here on WordPress.com or point your domain to a new webhost using these instructions:

    Change a Domain’s Name Servers

Otherwise, I can refund the remaining payment and you can wait for the domain to be released to be registered elsewhere.

Let me know what you would like to do.

Please reverse the cancellation on the domain and I will point it to another host.

    Thank you for your help.

  • I will attempt to reverse the cancellation. I will let you know if I am successful.

  • It looks like your domain has gone through the cancellation process and has been released. So it can be registered gain at any domain registrar.

Thus, I have processed the rest of the refund for you. Please be aware that it can take up to 7-10 business days for refunds to show up on your statement.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can do for you.
