Domain registrar asking for wordpress root IPv4 address when adding DNS record
-
I am trying to connect wordpress to cloudflare, which has my domain. I’m following the alternative method instructions here – https://wordpress.com/support/domains/connect-a-domain-alternative-method/#step-2-add-the-dns-records – I have to do this because my cloudflare plan doesn’t allow me to change the nameservers. The instructions say to add dns records. When I try to add the root DNS record, cloudflare asks me for ipv4 address. I assume this is what would go into the “value” section of default A record. There is none. When I try to create a new default A record in wordpress, it prompts me to “point to” what appears like a ip address. I’m lost. I just want to connect my domain to cloudflare so the “wordpress.” portion is no longer used, but updating nameservers in cloudflare is not an option. Please advise.

Hi there! 👋🏼
I suggest getting the
Arecords by starting the “advanced setup” from your dashboard:- Open https://wordpress.com/domains/mapping/godatasane.com/setup/godatasane.com
- Click the “Advanced Setup” link below the “Start Setup” button
- Click the “Start setup” button
- Click the “I found the domain’s settings page” button
- You’ll be presented with the DNS records you need to set up in your Cloudflare dashboard
⚠️ Cloudflare might interfere with the SSL and HTTPS settings we provide on your site.
To resolve this, you will want to check your Cloudflare settings. Specifically, access the settings under “SSL/TLS” –> “Edge Certificates.”
💡 There, you will want to ensure that the “Always Use HTTPS” setting is turned off.
💡 Also, within the “Edge Certificates” settings, there is an option for “Automatic HTTPS rewrite,” which must be turned off.
We already provide your site with SSL and force HTTPS, so this is causing a conflict and adding extra redirections.
