Domain Registrar/Domain Mapping/Removing ‘WordPress’ From URL

    I followed the instructions via wordpress, because I wanted to remove the .wordpress from my URL. I purchased credits, but I can’t seem to decipher what comes next. According to Download Mapping if the domain is available (mine was) “it will allow you to purchase it and map it to your WordPress.com blog”.
    This hasn’t happened. At least I don’t think it did.
    I have double checked the Domain Mapping section to no avail. As blogging is sort of a new deal in my life, I might be naive when it comes to the intricate steps.
    If it’s as simple as changing my domain registrar, can someone tell me where I can find that? I’ve looked but I’m dumbfounded (perhaps just dumb?).
    Forgive my naïveté, but, again, I’m not very blog-literate. It’s an exciting new world…if only I can master it!
