Domain Registration

Hi there,
I created an account with wordpress.com and purchased a domain name. I then realized that you can’t upload themes to wordpress.com, only wordpress.org. I cancelled my wordpress.com domain and account, and want to use that domain name on wordpress.org using bluehost so i can use a theme. It now says the domain is not available, and I’m just wondering if and when it will ever be available, or how i go about getting it back? Thanks for your help!

Hi @kayleelprice, since you cancelled the domain within 48 hours of registering it, they will release it soon. You have a couple of options:
– We can contact the registrar, have them return the domain to us, then you can point it to the new site. This takes a few business days, then you’d have to transfer the domain to the new registrar later. But this can be helpful if you need the domain an extra day or so early, or if you’re worried someone else might register it.
Or
– You can wait til they release the domain then re-register it at the new host. This usually takes a few days as well, sometimes slightly longer than the other option, but you’re already a few days into that process, so I think it would be about the same time either way.
I’d personally go for the second option so you don’t have to deal with a domain transfer later, but let us know what you’d like to do.
