Domain registration

  • Unknown's avatar

I completely forgot to renew my domain: denjimen.com, before it expired. I have already paid for registration. But the mapping is still going crazy. I’ve allowed for a month for things to get settled. I thought 30 days was the limit of domain redemption. I cannot find any help in any of the forums and this is the 4th contact email I’ve sent WordPress. This is really pissing me off because I’m losing business because WordPress doesn’t check its mailbox.

Please. I just need some help getting the damn mapping done.

    Thanks!

Hi Denis, sorry about the frustration. I checked our system but did not see previous requests from you regarding this domain name. I see that you purchased the domain mapping, but it won’t work because the domain itself has expired and you no longer own it. Because of this, I removed and refunded your domain mapping for the time being. Your content is still available at http://denjimen.wordpress.com

The domain denjimen.com expired on 2012-10-16 and is currently in redemption. This means that the domain is deactivated, but has not yet been fully released. During this time, you can still renew this domain, but the process is more complicated than a regular renewal.

If you’d like to renew your ownership of this domain, you have several options:

    1) We can renew the domain for you through our registrar. This costs $106, which includes $26 for the domain and an additional cost of $80 for a late renewal. We have no control over this additional cost, as it is levied on us by our domain registrar.

    2) Try to register the domain through a domain back-ordering service, such as Pool (Registering starts at $60 with Pool) http://pool.com/

    3) Wait until the domain is out of redemption and becomes available for registration again. Then, you can register it again for the regular price of $26. This would run the risk of the domain being registered by someone else before you, or the domain not being released for registration at all. The exact redemption period and the release of the domain are at the discretion of our domain registrar and we can’t control it.

If you want to have the best chance of getting your domain back, your best bet would be the first option. If you choose this option, please reply to this email letting us know. We will then send you a direct request for payment and will contact our registrar on your behalf, asking to restore the domain.

Please note that time is of the essence here. Because your domain is very close to being cancelled, it may no longer be possible to recover it. If you pay for renewal and we are unable to recover the domain, you will be fully refunded.

    Thanks for the reply Jenia!

I figured that it was under redemption. But I thought redemption was only about 30 days. It’s been at least two months. Do you know when it will be released? I highly doubt someone will take it. But you never know. I’ve been checking different sites and some say it is open and others say it is already taken.

I understand WordPress has no control over extra fees. That’s why I’m just waiting for the domain to get out from redemption. Over $100 seems like a quite excessive amount to pay when the original payment was only $26.

Again, thanks for your response. I’m glad I was able to at least talk to someone!

Hi D, as I mentioned above, the exact redemption period and the release of the domain are at the discretion of our domain registrar and we can’t control it. In many cases, it takes about 80 days for a domain that has expired and has not been renewed or back-ordered to be released by the registrar and become available for registration again. But again, 80 days after the expiration is just an estimate and someone might back-order your domain, or the registrar may decide not to release it. If you want it back, your best bet is the redemption option (#1).
