  I do not understand the email I recently received from you about renewal and domain registration. Could you explain to me what I need in order to keep my blog open to the ten or so family members I share it with so they can comment, and a closed group of other interested people to view only.

  I also received the email about renewal and an extra charge for the domain registration. I am trying to find out if this is a valid email from WordPress or a scam.

  Hi folks, essentially we need to start charging for domains that were previously included in your plan. Costs go up over time, of course, so this helps us keep free features free and provide our best support to users with paid plans.

  But rather than just surprise you when your domain is due again, we’re offering a chance to renew at the normal plan price for one more year.

  Your options are:

  – renew the domain in the promotional period, along with your plan (this will extend your plan AND domain, so if your domain normally expires in April 2019, for example, renewing now would extend them both to April 2020)

  – renew the domain and pay for both when it comes due

  You can also transfer the domain to another registrar, if you’d like, then use the plan to map the domain here. There would be no additional fee on our side. You’d just need to keep the domain registration renewed elsewhere.
