domain registration
-
Hi, I am trying to set up a website with WordPress. I already have a website at Jimdo which I wish to transfer to WordPress. However, I would first like to set up the WordPress site before actually making the transfer. So that for the time being my current site is still active, and when I am ready to go live with the wordpress site, to make the transfer. In setup I am asked to choose the domain registration and can choose between Transfer to WordPress or Map Your Domain. Which should I choose?

Hi there!
You can also choose a free subdomain like, for example, one ending with .wordpress.com and map or transfer your custom domain when you’re ready.
So, in other words, when you’re prompted to choose a domain for your site go for the free option. When you’ll want to connect the new WordPress.com site with your domain, you’ll be able to map it: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/ or transfer it here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/move-domain/incoming-domain-transfer/Let me know if you have any more questions regarding that.

Thanks. So I’ve setup a free subdomain. However, I now have a completely different cms then the one i’m used to with wordpress. How do I get the proper cms which looks like the pictures in this article https://premium.wpmudev.org/blog/bespoke-cms-wordpress/
Thanks!

Oh, it looks like you’ve mistaken WordPress.com and WordPress.org.
To clear up any further confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities.
We, WordPress.com are a cloud-based platform where we manage WordPress sites.
Whereas WordPress.org is a stand-alone software that you can download and self-host with any other hosting.
You can find more details about WordPress.com and WordPress.org on this support page:
