Domain registration

  I purchased a business which has their domain hosted at wordpress.com. However, they backed up and deleted the website just prior to sale. I’m trying to get into the site, and they created a new free account hosting and parked the domain there. However, they did not supply me with login information. They invited me to be a team member with administrative rights, but I cannot access the domain, do restores, etc. Email accounts are tied up with this domain as well. How can I gain access to the domain I purchased?

  Hi @marioncoherald, ownership issues can be really tricky. Generally on our servers, we’ll defer to the account that owns the site. If it’s hosted elsewhere, you’d work with the hosting provider, most likely, or with the site owners.

  Could you confirm what site you’re working with so we can see how best to sort this out?

  The domain belonged to a different account here before it was canceled.

  We can recover the domain, but we will need to receive the request from the account which owned it first.

  OK, the email associated with that no longer is accessible. So, on the current account, the Staff (@JimplecuteBlog) is the original account is my understanding – what they tell me at least

  What do you need to make this happen? I have paperwork showing sale of assets, including the domain, website, etc.

  I don’t have any of those options and the previous owners will not supply them. The form requires a transaction id or receipt or it won’t submit the request.

  What other options do I have?

  Sorry to hear it. You mentioned:

  the previous owners will not supply them

  If you’re able to work with them to get that resolved, let us know, but until then they are the owners in our system. They can transfer ownership to you with these steps:
