  I’ve a domain http://ustechnica.wordpress.com/, I want to purchase this domain but before that, I’ve couple of questions.
  1. will my rankings and google rankings go away?
  2. the visitors bookmarked my site will be redirected from ustechnica.wordpress.com to ustechnica.com
  3. will my domain hosted on wordpress servers?

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  Hello,

  1. No, your rankings will not disappear.
  2. Yes, visitors will be redirected.
  3. Domain will be hosted on a vendor’s servers, not WordPress.

  Hello Makethea,

  Thank you for your reply. I’ve purchased the domain ustechnica.com. but why am I not getting options to install plugins?
  can you please help? After buying the domain, do we get the option to install additional plugins?

  @mjmokaal – almost all the advice you were given above is wrong wrong wrong

  2) yes traffic will go to mapped domain name

  1) page rank will drop since the new name is new to search engines but the rank will come back after a few months – search traffic will also take a hit – it takes time for search engines to get used to the new name

  3) since you mapped to a WordPress.COM blog you are still hosted on WordPress.COM – you can’t do Plug-ins here – you are still subject to the original terms of service
