domain registration
-
Due to my ignorance, I found myself totally lost regarding domain registrations. This might help others too.
Originally, my domain, thulika.net was hosted by Yahoo Small Business web hosting. At the time, I was not aware that Yahoo included Melbourne IT, Australia, as domain registrar and Yahoo was reseller.
On March 25, I tried to move my site to WordPress. Once again, my mistake was not knowing that mapping did not mean moving my entire site. I am not blaming WordPress. It was my fault. After mapping, I asked WP Staff if I could delete thulika.net from Yahoo and, they told me I could do so.
In a fit of despercation, I deleted the site anyway since Yahoo site builder was giving me problems. I canceled wordpress mapping too.
Now, my friend started an account with another web host and is willing administer my domain.
The problem is, name servers are still ns1.wordpress.com and ns2wordpress.com. and in WHOIS, Melbourne IT is listed as my registrar. I have been trying to contact Melbourne IT, but they are not responding to my queries.
Can anyone suggest what my options are in this regard?
Thanks a bunch in advance.
Malathi

I’ll tag this thread for Staff assistance. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

Usually you work with the reseller – they many times will unlock the domain name (so changes can be made) then provide some sort of code or key that lets you go to the registrar and change the name servers – or they might just change things for you – start with the reseller first

If Yahoo is the registrar reseller, I recommend contacting them. More than likely, Melbourne IT will just send you back to them.

Thank you all. Yes, Yahoo was the reseller. The reseller had mentioned that the domain would not be renewed at the end of the year, but did not inform Melbourne IT that thenceforth, it would be my business to manage it. And neither party would respond to my emails.
It took sometime but finally managed to get the domain back.
I think it would be a good lesson for Yahoo customers – make sure they transfer the domain administration to you. -
