Domain Registration expiring and can't re register due to account in some one else's name

    Hi,
    My name is Gary and I had some one help me set up my web site and in doing so they used Bluehost to register my domain name and my friend is gone and my domain registration is expiring soon and Blue Host will not let me update my contact info nor will it just let me re register my domain either?? Can I just register my website with a different host?? and forget about bluehost altogether??

    You can create a new site on WordPress.com but without access to the domain on Bluehost, you won’t be able to use it on your new site.

    Regulations around domains are strict — it won’t be possible to renew the domain with Bluehost unless you are the owner. After the domain has expired it will eventually be released (if it isn’t purchased at auction). Once that has happened you can try to register it again. This can be a lengthy process and there is no guarantee you will be able to get the domain back.

    The other option is to register a new domain that is similar:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/register-domain/

    Hosting is included in WordPress.com sites, so there is no need to find your own.

    I am just confused a little bit??
    If I create a new site on wordpress how would I transfer all the stuff that my friend built on the old website over to the new website??
    My friend built the website for me, it is my website, but I don’t have access to it because she set it up with her email and contact information and now she is out of the country?? What are my options?? after paying for all that work I can’t afford to lose that sight??

    If you are able to contact your friend and get access to the site, the content can be exported and then imported into WordPress.com:

    Import a Website

    Without access to the site, the only option would be to move the content manually.

    What are my options?? after paying for all that work I can’t afford to lose that sight??

    What is the URL of the site you are unable to access? I’ll take a look.

    Hi Gary,

    Thanks for the link. I’ve taken a look at the site and the following information may help you:

    1. The domain is registered to FastDomain

    2. The site itself is hosted with Unified Layer

    You may want to contact both of these companies.

    As I mentioned before, we have no access to the site but if you get an .xml file of the content, it can be imported to WordPress.com.
