Domain registration issues

  I bough a domain, and it is active through wordpress.com, but when I do a WHOIS lookup for the domain it says it is not registered. Why is this the case when I have paid for it?

  WP.com: Yes
  Jetpack: No
  Correct account: Yes

  The AI said that the WHOIS lookup might not be updated, but why can I buy the domain from other sites? It should be unavailable and parked. Plus, I bought it about 2 weeks ago
