Domain Registration – Will old site be forwarded to new one?
-
Hello!
Excuse my ignorance but I’m new to all this stuff :)
I was thinking of registering my domain to http://www.writingwhilewineing.com but I had one question before I do that. For those of my followers that perhaps just type in ‘arden’ to get to my site, will they be forwarded automatically to the new page. I don’t want to lose readers if they can’t find my site. I hope this makes sense.
Thanks so much!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Yes, that’s what domain mapping is for and exactly what is does. Everywhere the original URLs appear on the internet and are clicked the person clicking them will be seamlessly redirected to the same content under the new domain URLs.
Before you go ahead with this please read this section very carefully > Domains – Important Notes Before Upgrading http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/#important-notes-before-upgrading
You log in as Admin under the exact same username account that registered the blog and purchase a domain name by purchasing an annually renewable domain mapping upgrade for the blog from the blog’s dashboard at > Store > My Upgrades.
See here if you do not own a domain http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/
See here for mapping an existing domain that you already own http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
See here for mapping a sub-domain (for a domain with an existing website) to your WordPress.com blog http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-subdomain/
Dashboard > Store > My Upgrades is where you do the primary blog set up knowing it can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.
