  If you purchase the domain so that it is nameofblog.com, but at some point don’t want to pay for it anymore, can you revert back to nameofblog.wordpress.com? If not, what is that process? Thank you!

  yes you can

  the only downside is anyone linking to the custom domain name now has the links broken, for instance if you have friends that bookmark the custom domain name, you would need to give them the old URL so they could find your blog again
