Domain Registry scam
-
I received a letter in the mail (from Domain Registry of America, http://www.droa.com) indicating that my domain kellysalasin.com (that is hosted/registered with wordpress.com) would be expiring and that I needed to renew it. I assume this is a scam, but I though I should verify with you and also alert you and other users that this company is falsely claiming wp domain registrations.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi Kelly,
Yes, you are correct. This is spam, and feel free to throw this out as we have been made aware of this. Please note that you can only renew domains registered through WordPress.com by going to Store > My Upgrades in your Dashboard – no where else.
In order to combat this, we have Private Registration, because currently your domain contact information is public (similar to being in the phone book). You can privatize your domain with Private Registration ($8/year per domain), which would hide all your contact information. You can find more information about this here:
However, if you aware that you can only renew your domain through your Dashboard, and don’t mind your contact information out there, you just just ignore these letters.
Feel free to reach out if you have any questions!
