Domain Release
-
I need to transfer my domain, however, I believe it is being held as it had expired just before attempting to transfer. If someone could please call to advise how I would be able to transfer to my new site, I would really appreciate it (redacted). Thank you!

Hi Genny,
adamsdentalstudio.com expired on 22nd March 2019 is currently in the redemption period. Only active domains can be transferred, so this one will need to be renewed first.
At this stage, we can try to recover the domain but an $80 redemption fee will be added to the domain cost. I’ve sent a payment request for this amount, to the email address on your Account Settings page.
If you would like to proceed with trying to recover the domain, please pay as soon as possible and reply here afterwards. We can then start the recovery process by contacting our domain registrar and look at the transfer process with you if that is successful.
It’s best not to share personal information on these public forums so I’ve removed the phone number — we don’t provide phone support but we can help you here instead :)

This does not help. I do not want to reactivate a service just to then transfer what I’ve just paid for. That makes no sense. I would like for the domain to be released from the grace period so that I can be purchased on a different platform. The fact that I can’t even get a real rep is part of a MAIN reason why. I do not want my issues handled via forums!
Please advise when the domain is released.

When a domain is in the Redemption Period, it can only be renewed under the registrar that it was allowed to expire under: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/domain-expiration/#redemption-period

This is so pointless. It’s truly sad how terrible/confusing WP has become. I’ve used WP since 2012 and have seen the evolution of the service. It’s terrible! I had so much freedom with much less confusion/irritability, literally built websites from scratch.
Customer service is TERRIBLE! I HATE communicating via FORUM for a service that I paid for, and all to be told that nothing can be done.
Thank you for absolutely nothing. I would NEVER recommend this platform to anyone.

I apologize for the complexity of the domain expiration process, but it is not something we have control over. It is mandated by The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICAAN), the governing body which oversees all domain registrations.
We have this documented extensively at https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/domain-expiration/
When you allowed the domain to expire on February 20 this year, it was no longer owned or paid for by you, and had to enter this process.
Currently, it is in the Redemption Period, during which it can only be renewed at the original registrar, and only for an additional $80 fee. Again, this is not a policy a we created, but it is a policy we must abide by.
Eventually, the domain will return to the public market, assuming it is not auctioned off or awarded to any standing back-orders. The overall process takes up to 90 days: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/domain-expiration/#please-remember
