Domain renewal

  Ok look, I will immediately confess my profound/pathetic ignorance of wordpress and the technical aspects of maintaining a blog/website. I have run into a problem and will appreciate your reply.

  Through wordpress.com I set up a blog in 2007: open-discourse.com

  I set it up purely through wordpress, making my payments of course, and it was all rather straightforward.

  In 2008 I renewed my domain, again through wordpress.

  In 2009 I missed renewing my doman registration. Unlike 2008, this time around I did not receive any notification by post. In any case, I did the same thing: logged into wordpress and bought the 10 credits to renew the domain.

  But another website has replaced my blog, some “This web page is parked free, courtesy of GoDaddy.com”. I’ve never before dealt with this website. According to this site, the domain open-discourse.com is ‘already taken’! It says:

  I created it on 10-Jan-07, then renewed it in 2008.

  What are my options now? How do I go about re-gaining the domain? Even the 10 credits which I purchased from wordpress aren’t showing up.

  If you failed to renew it and someone else bought it, which looks to be what happened, you’re probably stuck.

  what i don’t understand is if the domain was no longer available, then why did wordpress charge me for the purchase of 10 credits? And why did I receive no notification/warning shortly before the deadline as I did in 2008?

  I got a mailed invoice from a ‘domain renewal group’ that charged substantially more than WordPress. Luckily I’d held back until the WordPress reminder…

  I need help I purchased my domain via what I thought was wordpress but as it turns out it was via wildwestdomains. However my hardrive died last December and along with all my emails including that one with my user number etc.

  How do I renew my name? I need to no urgently as it has to be renewed in the next 48 hours.

  Any help is greatly appreciated.
