Domain Renewal

  If domain is registered via another provider and ‘connected’ to wordpress does the free domain available option still apply with the annual plan? Or would I need to separately renew the domain registration?

  Hi! There’s no way for us to renew your domain with another provider; our offer of a free domain in the first year is specifically for registering a domain here on WordPress.com (or indeed transferring the registration here – after transfer the next year’s renewal is a separate charge as standard).

  Because of that you’d definitely be renewing your domain as normal with your existing provider!

  Thank you. I’d love to transfer but was advised that .com.au domains cannot be transferred

  Hi there,

  You’re correct. staff-95percentghost might have missed that your domain had .com.au TLD, which can’t be transferred to us.

  This means your domain must remain with another registrar. It will continue to work as long as it’s active and is pointed to WordPress.com nameservers or IP addresses.

  As for the free domain, because you can’t transfer a .com.au domain, your free domain credits will remain unused. You can use it to register a new domain (like a .com alternative if you prefer, which you can redirect to the primary .com.au domain).
