Domain Renewal
-
I am on a committee and a previous member owned the domain. The domain has since expired and I would like to renew the domain as it is important to my committee. I am an administrator for the domain, but I am unable to renew the domain without the previous member’s contact information. Is there a way that I can renew this domain under my name? The domain name is showing as unavailable for purchase.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there!
Are you still in touch with the original domain owner? I think the standard protocol here would be for the original owner to get in touch with WordPress.com admin, and request for the domain to be transferred to you and renewed.
There IS another option, but it is a risk. The second option is to wait until the domain is out of redemption and becomes available for registration again. Then, you can register it again for the regular price ($17). This would run the risk of the domain being registered by someone else before you, or the domain not being released for registration at all. The exact redemption period and the release of the domain are at the discretion of our domain registrar and we can’t control it.
If you want to have the best chance of getting your domain back, your best bet would be the first option.

@kmk3s is correct in all that they said.
The best bet is to get in touch with the current owner of the domain.
What I can do is e-mail the address associated with the account to see if I can get in touch with the current owner – hopefully they would be willing to transfer the upgrade over to you if they are no longer interested in using it.
Let me know if you would like me to reach out to the owner of the upgrade.
Thanks!
