domain renewal
-
I believed that I had my domain set to auto renew. I never got any emails telling me it was expiring. I found out today, after my site was shut down, that it expired March 22nd. I would have happily paid to renew it if I had received notice. I double checked my email and my notification here and there was no warning whatsoever that you had any problems with my auto renewal payment. Please let me know what I need to do to get my site back up and running.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

sorry I should have put in the domain. The site I’m having problems with is smithsquad.com

Hi there,
Your domain(=smithsquad.com) is in the redemption period currently, and it’s possible for the domain to be recovered.
I have tagged this thread, so WordPress.com staffs are taking a look at your account and assisting you soon. Please wait patiently until they reach you.
Thanks!

Thank you hacchism. I must say this is an insanely inefficient method of customer support. Two days to get a response when every other company I’ve ever worked with I can call or live chat and get help within minutes or hours. This sucky support on top of never being notified that there was a problem with my auto renewal means I definitely will never purchase any products direct from WordPress after this experience and will be advising my friends against using them as well.

To be fair to WordPress.com you didn’t originally give the address of the domain you needed help with and it is now the weekend when less staff are available. Whilst you are waiting for staff to respond this support doc gives more details regarding the redemption process as there are extra costs now: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/domain-expiration/.

To be fair they should have notified me that my autorenewal payment failed. Double checked my email on file and it’s updated. No excuse for not telling me. They just wanted to rob me of the extra $80.
-
It’s unfortunate that your auto renewal warning did not reach you. The fee redemption fee cannot be waived by wordpress.COM Staff as they do not set it. The $80 redemption fee is set by the domain name registrar and the money flows back to that same domain registrar, without benefit to wordpress.COM.

Good Morning Folks :)
luckyduckylularoe – The redemption process should only take about 48 hours start to finish. First, I just need to confirm that you’ll agree to the redemption fee. As timethief mentioned, this is not our fee waive.
Also, double check the email address listed on your account at wordpress.com/me/account/ and verify that it is up to date.

Would you like me to proceed with the redemption? I need to confirm that you agree to the $80 charge?

-
No problem. I’ve sent an email with a secure billing link and more details about the redemption process. Please note that smithsquad.com was not connected to this user account you are posting from here in this thread – I’ve emailed the email address on the correct account.
