Domain Renewal

  • Unknown's avatar

Hello! My domain is thegoldenantlers.com, it was registered on here. I missed the email about renewing the domain name and so it expired. I have been trying to figure this out for weeks — how can I get my domain back? My blog is crumbling without users being able to visit the site. Can you help me?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I’m not finding that domain in the ICANN registry so I suspect that it’s completely expired. I suggest that you immediately try to register it now with your current hosting provider before it gets taken.

Yeah, I registered it here on WordPress which is why this is causing me so much trouble. The interface to renew the domain is nonexistent. I need someone who works for WordPress to help me recover it

Hello again, searching on a different WHOIS site brought back that the domain is in the redemption period at WildWestDomains, which is WPcom’s registrar.

When a domain is in the redemption period, the registrar imposes an additional $80 fee for recovery of the domain. You will need to agree to this fee before Staff can start the recovery process.

To learn more about what happens when a domain expires, please read this support guide: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/domain-expiration/

This thread is still tagged for Staff attention; please be patient for their reply.

  • Hi there,

The domain, thegoldenantlers.com, expired on 11 March already, and went into redemption on 23 April. We can still recover the domain for you at this point, but we’ll need to pay our registrar and additional $80 to get it back. Please let me know if you agree to that fee and I can get the recovery process started for you.

    Hello Kokkieh,

Yes, I can pay the $80 fee — that’s so weird it expired. I have an email from WordPress stating that it would auto-renew on Feb 9th, 2017. It’s strange that it expired in March. Even stranger is an email conversation I have with a WordPress employee (Tish B.) which states that I renewed my domain July 20, 2016.

Any who, thank you Kokkieh for helping me, I can pay the $80 fee but I would appreciate if you could help me understand what happened,

    Cheers,
    The GA

  • It looks like last year it was also a late renewal. But domains always expire on the same date it was registered. You originally registered your domain on 11 March 2013, so the domain will always expire on 11 March, even if you only renewed it in June.

It looks like the auto-renew failed for your domain when we tried it. We sent an email on 9 February to let you know it failed. Perhaps that email landed in your spam folder? According to that email, the card that was connected to your domain upgrade had expired.

I’ve emailed you a link to pay for the renewal. Once we receive your payment I can contact our registrar to recover the domain.

Perfect, thank you for explaining that to me kokkieh. Next time I’ll have to watch out for that. Thank you for your help! I just sent the payment.

  • Payment received. I’ve emailed our registrar to restore the domain. It usually takes a day or two, but I’ll let you know as soon as I hear from them.

  • Your domain has been restored and it is showing your site again.

Please let me know if I can help with anything else.
