domain renewal

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, I’m trying to renew my domain name which is expiring. I don’t know how to do it. The email from WordPress says it has to be renewed and ‘the upgrade’ can be continued for $26. When I log in to the account there is no such upgrade available on the domain page, and clicking on the ‘domain is expiring tab’ takes me to account upgrade information, with 3 account upgrades available, all of which are more than $26.
Andyone know how do I do it?
Here’s the message in the email received:
The domain name xxx.org is about to expire. This upgrade adds the domain ‘xxx.org’ to your site.
    Renew xxx.org
The domain xxx.org costs $26.00, and it is set to expire in 14 days, on October 22, 2017. If this upgrade expires, your site will no longer be available at ‘xxx.org’.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi @joey2222,

I’m not sure what your options are in this case, so I’ve put a tag on this post to have a moderator or staff look into your issue. Thank you for your patience as they work this out.

    Happy blogging!

After looking at the registration information on your web site, it looks like your domain registrar is http://www.wildwestdomains.com. They’re the team that currently controls your domain. If you’d like to transfer over so WordPress.com handles it, that’s an option and reply back for help doing that.

Otherwise, head over to their customer support for help with your domain renewal. You can also call them anytime at (480) 624-2500.

Good luck getting your domain renewed!

@jessestu I see you tagged this thread for staff (and then removed the tag as I don’t see it now?) It is highly likely that the OP has a custom domain originally supplied by WordPress.com as WordPress.com have used wildwestdomains for that very purpose for many years.

@joey2222 you should be able to renew your domain via “Manage purchases” as long as you are the owner of the domain in question and logged in to the right account. I don’t think you currently are. If you are still unable to make the $26 payment then by all means return to this thread and add modlook to the tag box on the right. Once a domain expires it becomes more complicated to renew. If you have just been paying for a domain you should be able to continue to do so if you renew on time. If you don’t, then you’ll find that an upgraded plan will be required.

Thank you, @themagicrobot. I made an assumption when I saw the registrar wasn’t WordPress.com. I removed the tag after having added it when I saw that. I’m glad you still checked in.

What other registrars could I expect to see that partner with Automattic?

@joey2222, again, good luck in getting your domain renewed!

Thanks everyone. After calling Wild West, they say the domain is actually with Word Press now. Don’t know why WHOIS still shows them, but that’s the story.

Did you see what I wrote higher up in this thread regarding wildwestdomains. And did you check if you have another account that you need to log in as to renew your domain. The account you’re posting from is only three months old so cannot have been used to originally register the domain that is about to expire.

    MODLOOK –
Hi, thks for checking in again. We only have this one account, and 3 months ago I probably changed the account to be under my name as the previous admin has moved on to another nonprofit. The wildwest tech people told me they don’t have the domain. I don’t know what else to do. Word Press does allow me to renew under Manage Accounts, but the renewal shows up as an upgrade, with plans for Personal through Business, and roughly $4/mth to much higher. Have I put modlook in the right place on top of this message? Thks again!

No, modlook needs to go in the tag box to the right of this post. I have now added it and am sorry you have wasted the last 24 hours. Staff will respond, but it is the weekend so I can’t guarantee how soon.

I probably changed the account to be under my name as the previous admin has moved on to another nonprofit.

You needed to follow instructions found here:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/move-domain/transfer-a-domain-to-another-wordpress-com-account/
If you don’t see the renewal in your dashboard then you’re not the owner of the domain. We’ll have to wait for a member of staff now.

There are no upgrades actively connected to this user account nor is there a history of such purchases. My suspicion is that you are not signed in to the correct account for this domain renewal. I can confirm that if you share the domain here.

Are you signing in with the email address where the email about the renewal was delivered?

themagicrobot, thanks for getting the modlook tag added here!

Finally, with everyone’s help, I did figure this out. I thought I had moved over the admin to my personal profile but hadn’t. I located the original log in account and was able to renew there. Thank you all.
