Domain renewal? I have received no emails and now renewal plus $80??!!!

Hello, I have received no emails about a renewal but now on my site it is saying it is expired and I have to pay renewal plus a late fee of $80!!
I would like to appeal this as I can afford $18 but $98 is just too big a difference?
This seems very unreasonable.The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Sometimes the email seems to fail for some reason (has happened to me) – but safest is to use the auto renew option and also write on your calendar when you renewal date is

I just checked and we sent you three emails about your domain and the auto renewal failure. The first, to alert you that auto renew failed, was sent on October 4, and the following emails to alert you that the domain was about to expire were sent on October 20 and 29.
These emails were sent to the address listed here:

These emails have probably been cleared from your Spam folder, if that’s where they ended up. Adding the address help[at]wordpress.com to your contact list could help this problem.
The $80 fee is one that is charged by the registrar and we have no control over it. You can always wait for your domain to finish the expiration process in about 50 days and attempt to re-register it at that time.
